Hello, reader! My name is Celestial CJ, and I'm a fashion influencer, cosplayer, and content creator based in Tampa, Florida. I am new to blogging, but I wanted to document my exciting journey into the world of LEGO. Over the past few months, I have learned quite a bit and am realizing that I have only just scratched the surface of what lies ahead. Join me as I navigate my way through the fascinating realm of LEGO. Thank you for being here and for your interest in my perspective; I hope you enjoy the journey!
During the summer of July 2024, I witnessed the Lego community gain unprecedented exposure on social media. Specifically, Black women were trending as they showcased their beautiful creations from LEGO's Botanical Collection. I had never realized how popular and expansive the community was, nor how many adults continued to indulge in something from our childhood. A part of me was eager to give it a try, as I sought another avenue for creativity and therapy. I also wanted an engaging activity to pursue in between my cosplay endeavors—something I might be just as passionate about, if not more.
I researched the various types of builds available on the market and came across the Harry Potter collection. Instantly, I knew this would be my starting point. As a child and even into adulthood, I have always been a Harry Potter fan. This series was the first chapter books that truly captured my attention, and the movies remain some of my all-time favorites. From that moment on, I was ready to explore what the LEGO hype was all about.
I visited my local Barnes & Noble (where I’m ironically typing this blog) because I knew they had a LEGO section. As soon as I discovered that they carried the Wizarding World Harry Potter sets, I was immediately overwhelmed with joy. Thoughts raced through my mind: "There are so many!", "Which set should I choose?", "Is this going to be difficult?" I took the time to consider which set would hold sentimental value—perhaps something that resembled a favorite scene or my favorite Harry Potter movie. Then, I laid my eyes on the "4 Privet Drive" set, and a light bulb went off. The scene from 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone' where Ron, Fred, and George break Harry out of the Dursleys' home is one of my favorites. At that moment, I knew exactly where my journey would begin.
Listen, this build was something else! I opened the box and was instantly intimidated by the number of consolidated bags that seemed to contain a million tiny pieces. I thought, "What the hell did I get myself into?" However, I had already spent my money and thrown away the receipt, so there was no turning back for me. I opened the assembly manual and got to work. The first part of the build I assembled was the Weasley's Ford Anglia 105E, which, to my surprise, was easy and quick to put together. When I saw that it came with the chain and suitcase, I admired how detailed LEGO had made this set. The trunk could open and close, and the car wasn't just a display piece; it could also be used by younger builders for play. Super cute! Although I knew it was primarily a display piece, I remembered that children also assembled and played with these sets (duh). Anyway, once it was time to build the house, that’s where I really put in the effort. After a long, dedicated four hours, I finished and was in absolute awe. I did it! I thought finishing was so cool and felt a strong sense of accomplishment. From that moment on, I knew LEGO had found its newest builder: me!
